The greatest waste of our time is the waste of talent. There are millions of people who once had the ambition to do great things with their career, but got stuck in mind-numbing, pointless, or just plain harmful jobs.

We believe there’s an antidote to that sense of emptiness: moral ambition. Moral ambition is the desire to be one of the best, but measured by different standards of success – not motivated by big paychecks, fancy honorifics or a huge corner office, but pursuing a career dedicated to finding the best solutions to the biggest problems the world is facing now.

The moral ambition community welcomes everybody who is ready to dedicate their career to solving challenges that are important, neglected and tractable. Members help each other to grow their impact by giving each other support, sharing contacts and opportunities.

From March 2024 onwards, we launched the ‘Moral Ambition Circles’. A Circle is a group of six to eight professionals who challenge and support each other to do more good in their career. We offer the program for free on our our website.

From August 2024, we will launch our community platform that connects Circle participants and other ambitious idealists from multiple countries.

In November 2024, our co-founder Rutger Bregman (Im Grunde gut) will publish the German version of his book ‘Moral ambition’. From this, we want to build and support a thriving moral ambition community in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. To achieve this, we will work with morally ambitious ambassadors, empower Circle starters, and unite professionals committed to increasing their positive impact.

about the role

As the Community Manager at the School for Moral Ambition (SMA), you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the moral ambition community in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparing the launch: support ambassadors, finalize texts on the website, onboard first Circle starters.
  • Partnering with organisations that share our mission.
  • Moderating the community: create a lively space where community members can help each other grow their impact.
  • Mobilize Circle starters and other volunteers to help you expand the movement in Germany.
  • Organize events for various groups within our community, both online and offline.
  • Inform the community via newsletters, social media and the community platform.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that support and grow the Moral Ambition Community in the DACH countries.

You will work closely with the Community Team that is mainly based in Amsterdam. The team consists of our Moral Ambition Circle program manager Niki Angyal, our editor Brendan Hadden, the Amsterdam Community Manager Marijn Scheltens and the Community Director Julia van Boven.
