The School for Moral Ambition (SMA) is a new organisation that focuses on attracting the most talented people to work on the most pressing issues of our time. The activities of SMA fall into the following categories:

  • Book and Branding: Based on Rutger Bregman’s book Morele Ambitie - revolving around the idea that people’s talents should be used for working on global challenges - we’ll launch a corresponding campaign to establish a prestigious brand that attracts talent and sparks a movement around moral ambition.
  • Community Activities: We organise Moral Ambition Circles and offer the resources for someone to start their own Circle. These circles help morally ambitious people develop a career that matches their ideals.
  • Exclusive Fellowship Programs: Initiation of targeted, highly selective programs in which small groups of fellows (~12 people) will focus on solving one of the most pressing and neglected global problems together.

Please read our founding principles for a better insight into our mission and guiding values.

What We’re looking for

  • Organisational Flexibility: You’re good at juggling multiple tasks and figuring out what’s most important.
  • Easy with Uncertain Outcomes: You’re okay with the fact that the impact of your work might not be immediate or directly visible. You understand that the effects of our efforts might take years to show up, and sometimes it’s hard to measure success. You’re comfortable with this kind of uncertainty and ready to tackle challenges where results aren’t always clear-cut.
  • Can-Do Attitude and Growth Mindset: You’re all about getting things done and are excited to try new ideas and approaches. You welcome feedback and are always looking for ways to improve and grow.
  • Great Writing and Teamwork Skills: You have a knack for clear, effective writing and enjoy working together with others to get things done. Note: being able to write in Dutch is a requirement for this position.

We welcome applicants of all races, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, national origins, disabilities, and other diverse backgrounds. Also, if you do not have all the requirements above, we encourage you to apply. At the School for Moral Ambition, we value talent and a can-do attitude above traditional credentials.

  • A Flexible Learning Plan: This internship is a two-way street. While you’ll help us with your skills, we’re also dedicated to helping you grow professionally. You’ll set your own learning goals and have the freedom to work on projects that support those goals, ensuring you gain valuable experience in the areas you’re most interested in.
